We're just one day shy of celebrating the festive Eid Al-Adha in the UAE. Where the obvious spots will definitely be favored by the half a million visitors expected to be in the UAE during the season, here are a few comfortable alternatives you can consider to make the most of the holiday season.
1. Road trip to the Northern Emirates
Some of the UAE's best kept secret spots reside in its northern coastal parts. You and your friends, or even family, can drive to Khorfakkan/Fujeirah to spend a day of barbecue and tanning on the beach with the rocky mountains as your backdrop. Its one of the best ways to enjoy the UAE outdoors and to appreciate nature in the country. The distance between Dubai and Khorfakkan is about 150kms (~2 hours journey) so it is highly recommended that you make way there as early as you can to be able to spend most of your day there and not on the road.
2. Charter a Yacht in Dubai
Chartering out a yacht in Dubai is considered as a group-of-friends must-do activity when in town. Some yachts schedule stops out in the sea in their itineraries to give you the opportunity to jump in to the waters. There are a number of good companies out here, but the one I prefer dealing with is Xclusive Yachts which is based out in Dubai Marina mainly for their good rates. Usually The Entertainer (discount book) offers some good deals also with Xclusive Yachts; like getting a free hour when chartering the yacht for 2 or 3 hours.
3. House gatherings/parties
We're soo fixated on doing things outside that we tend to overlook spending an evening with friends in the comfort of our own home. Depending on the size of your house, you might want to organize a barbecue! It's always a fun group activity, especially for the guys! Alternatively, order in! Chinese food or pizzas are always a favorite. You can also buy and work a karaoke machine at home. I recommend MediaCom products as their music collection is large and their prices are reasonable, you can find them in most Sharaf DG stores. Also, for AED 100 per person, you can order shisha from Flying Shisha to be delivered straight to your home; comes with coal too.
4. Head to the malls in Dubai after hours
Rather than heading to the mall during normal hours and joining the anticipated Eid rush when it will certainly be jam-packed with people and parking will be a nightmare; choose to go to the mall a little later than usual as some of Dubai's leading malls will be operational for 24 hours during October 15 and 16! Some of the malls in Dubai that will be working round the clock include The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Deira City Centre, and Mirdiff City Centre.
