Its the eve of Eid and with the break mingling with our weekend; every minute counts! Keep in mind that we have 1.5 million visitors for the festive season so I thought of contributing some suggestions on where to go and what to check out while avoiding the stress of traffic, parking and over-congested malls!
1. Skyfall - the new James Bond 007 movie debuts in all screens at midnight tonight, and I KNOW how much you really want to watch it so why not watch it at:
a. Meydan IMAX Theatre - Its the biggest IMAX screen in the UAE and its worth watching the movie there because the movie is also shot with an IMAX camera. Also, the location of the theater and its independence from any mall, add to those, the sequential-ism manner of playing movies, are big factors in controlling the crowds who go there!
b. Grand Cinemas or Vox Cinemas but only after midnight! The malls are open for 24hrs during the weekend so why not avoid the queues and catch a 2-3am movie? After all, it is a new experience!
2. Rest Upon the Wind - a play inspired by the life and times of Khalil Gibran!
Whether you love Gibran or don't even know who he is, do not under any circumstances miss the chance to go and watch this witty "London West End" production play. The next and last show is at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi. Visit: www.boldtalks.com for more info and to purchase tickets!
3. Enrique Iglesias - Live in Dubai!
Although I would normally not recommend any concerts during the festive season; it is Enrique Iglesias and he will be live on October 26 at the Dubai World Trade Center. Even though Enrique still comes up with new material til today, I think this show will appeal more to 25+ years old ladies! Also the area around the DWTC will give you a lot of chance to find a parking spot but you may have to park far and walk a little; but why not given the good weather, huh?
4. Downtown Burj Khalifa - ONLY AFTER MIDNIGHT
Since the malls are going to be open for 24 hrs, it may be wise to go there after midnight! The Burj Khalifa Plaza at Downtown Burj Khalifa (just after Souk Al Bahar) is turning in to a popular spot. Look out for Loui's (Shu Cafe's new sibling) that has a stunning view of the magnificent Burj!
Eid Mubarak :)
