Outdoors season in the Emirates has finally settled in. With the nation enjoying a more stable, and cooler weather nowadays, it is with no surprise that the fine people of the UAE are shifting towards a more active lifestyle.
Just two days ago, Dubai was host to the international rendition of ' The Color Run' event, in which it was reported that over 8,500 UAE-ers signed up and took part! Good job Dubai! The concept was simple, the event's organizers labelled it as the "happiest 5k run on earth" primarily due to the fact that you get splashed with 4 different colors along your 5k run to end up later in a massive party of rainbow colors flying all around you.
I have been asked a lot recently about where do I find out about such 'fun' runs; and therefore, I decided to compile a list of upcoming running events that I think are fun to be part of even if you are not an experienced, nor active jogger:

1. Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2014 -- 3k Fun Run
Rather than pushing your limits to 42kms, set a goal to jog through the 3k course of the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon. Make a day out of it and join the community in this world's richest marathon event!
When? January 24, 2014 (11am)
Fees? USD 15 per person

2. RAK Half Marathon -- Team Relay Challenge Teams (approx. 5k run per person in a team of 4 people)
If you are looking for a greater sense of achievement than a 3k, why don't you opt for a 21kms run that you can split into approx 5kms among 4 runners who belong in the same time. Winning teams bag AED 7,000! How about that for an incentive?
When? February 14, 2014
Fees? AED 1,000 for the entire team

3. Energizer Night Rebel 2014 - 10k run
Though the shortest course of this race is quite a stretch for the beginning runner, I truly feel that the experience you take out from this is quite unique. The concept is running in the dark for 10kms using a torch headlight to light up your path. Why not, right?
