Emaar Properties, Dubai-based developer of some of the Emirate's most iconic projects, had recently announced a partnership with Art Dubai.
The partnership between Emaar and Art Dubai aims to further strengthen Dubai's art and cultural affiliations, and contributes to the growing local art communities and industries within the Emirates. Emaar's flagship mega-development Downtown Dubai is envisaged to be the heart of arts and culture in Dubai and will include the new development, The Opera District.

The Opera District will include Dubai Opera, a 2000-seat multipurpose performing arts centre inspired by Dubai's maritime history, as well as luxury hotels, elegantly designed residential and serviced apartments, a retail plaza, restaurants, waterfront, promenades, recreational spaces and parks. It is envisaged that the Opera District will become home to around 10,000 people.

The Opera District Architectural Model |
Indeed, the identity of any city is also defined by its cultural context; and such an investment in a Dubai Opera will transcend the performing arts scene in Dubai to the next level. It is expected that Dubai Opera will be a host to some of the world's best opera groups but perhaps it becomes appropriate now to consider nurturing an opera group from within Dubai, to be residing in Dubai, and to occupy the Dubai Opera events calendar when it is not hosting such internationally- or regionally- acclaimed performances.
