1 way only to get through Ramadan!

We read a lot these days about techniques and tips that can help us get through the holy month of Ramadan. Yes, we are restrained from food and water intake for around 15 hours per day in the UAE and as such, we do need to follow a number of medical-backed advises to help our bodies cope "biologically"; but I really think that there is only 1 thing everyone should do to make this wonderful, spiritual experience a whole lot more easy and enjoyable.

There is an Arabic saying that when translated means "everything that is forbidden, is desired!". I think this is the golden rule, plain and simple! When people start thinking that they are forbidden from eating and drinking for 15 hours, their mind goes crazy and focuses on just that! You see them getting more tired, nervous and sometimes angry! That is because their mind is desiring food and water more and more by the minute (if not by the second).

The holy month reminds us that there are those who are less fortunate than we are; not only financially but socially as well. This is why I think it is important for one to get in to the mind-state of wanting to become a better character during the month of fasting. I'm not trying to preach people to go and help out the poor and needy (which would be awesome if you did btw); what I am trying to say is: start with your own environment! Be better with yourself, your family and friends! As we have 15 hours to spare, work on those matters important to you that you normally don't find the time to do. I won't go into the cliche advises of what these matters are as I believe that nobody knows what's more important to you than you; so figure them out and spend your time improving every aspect of them. You'll see that the time will fly before you know it.

In case you did want medical-backed advises on how to get by, here are a few links. Happy fasting :)
